Preventing Acne Sometimes Can't Be Done

No matter how hard a person tries, sometimes there's nothing that can be done to prevent acne from starting. With causes that are largely unknown, the condition continues to baffle medical science. And while preventative measures such as over-the-counter medications, work in some cases; there are times when nothing will stop an outbreak.

The condition itself is one that presents in almost everyone at some point or another. The severity, of course, will vary, along with the duration.

And while the actual causes are still under debate, there is some agreement that the following things might lead to an outbreak:

* Hormonal fluctuations: There are many doctors who believe hormones are very involved in a number of breakouts. Examples of why this seems to be the case show themselves in teen-age breakouts, those that happen during pregnancy and even breakouts that take place during mid-life changes in some people. It seems, in some people, the ups and downs of hormones play a big role in the creation of breakouts. But, keep in mind, they may not affect others.
* Heredity. Sad, but quite likely true, genetics seems to play are role in who will develop acne and who won't. There are many researchers who believe there is a very strong link with genetics.
* Medications. There are many drugs that seem to cause acne. If this is the cause, stopping the drugs or changing the doses might lessen the condition. If the drug suspected is one that's been prescribed by a doctor, seek medical advice before stopping it or changing the dosage. It's always better to err on the side of caution.

There are many other probable causes for acne that range from stress to improper diet. Food myths aside, there does seem to be a connection in some people between a poor diet (not a particular food) and breakouts.

Although it's not always possible to prevent the condition, there are ways to make sure not to inflame it or make it worse once it does present. In general, it's a good idea to keep the skin clean, but not "scrubbed," avoid touching the skin and use proper medications.

Acne is something no one wants to deal with, but many end up with whether they like it or not. Regardless of the causes, there are ways to treat it when a breakout happens. Not every cure will work for every person, but with patience and persistence, there are ways to lessen the effects of the condition.
