Examining The Topical Acne Solution

When it comes to treating acne, most people will first employ the use of a topical acne solution in order to subside the growth and spreading of acne across the body. While most assume that acne is a facial skin problem, this is only partly true. In reality, acne can spread to the neck, back, arms and even scalp. Regardless of where the acne is present, the use of a topical acne solution is usually the first course of action. There are two types of these topical solutions both of which will be examined.

Topical Acne Solution Over the Counter Version

The most common of the topical solutions are the ones that are available in over the counter versions. These are those name brands that are offered on television commercials which make some bold claims about effectiveness. While the degrees of effectiveness may vary from person to person, the gist of the over the counter solutions is that they dry up the excess oil in the glands and, thus, cause the pimples to dry up and go away. But what if they do not go away? Is there a different recourse to take?

Topical Acne Solution Prescription Only Version

If the over the counter versions do not work, then it may be best to seek a prescription based topical acne solution as these are more powerful and can be significantly more effective. Of course, to acquire such a topical means that you must visit the dermatologist in order to arrive at which solution is best.

Sadly, many people take the somewhat easy way out and go to online prescription sites to purchase these products. This is not the wisest move because the online examination is simply the best way of deciding what type of topical is best for you. After all, the doctor filling out such a prescription has never actually seen your acne condition!

Topical and Oral Acne Solution

Often, a doctor will prescribe a combination of an oral acne medication along with a topical one. If the acne is too far down into the skin for a topical to reach, an oral medication (usually an antibiotic) will be employed to eradicate the acne. Of course, there are other courses of action to take, but this is the most common and it has also proven the most successful. Generally, it is pretty tough for even the most resistant form of acne to beat the one-two punch of an oral and topical combination acne solution.
