My face is oily in the T-zone, but also dry and red and sensitive…help?
Hi
My face looks like crap and I’m 18 years old.. i’ve suffered from acne but it’s going away because I started taking the pill, I only have blackheads now. My face gets oily in the T-zone after a while but is sometimes also dry and red. My cheeks are red and dry. I also blush very easily.
WHAT CAN I DO…
I use Shiseido pureness line and I don’t feel like it’s harsh on my skin…but when i exfoliate I use Eucerin DermoPurifyer Scrub and when i use it my face is very red until the next day.
help please
I have pretty much the same problem, but because I have a really great dermatologist who has given me wonderful advice, I’ve been able to overcome this issue (for the most part). I have extremely sensitive skin that when left alone, is often oily in some spots (particularly my T-zone)and dry in others (my neck and cheeks). I also have been dealing with the issue of moderate acne since I was a teenager (I’m 25 now). I also take the pill (Yaz). Yaz has definitely helped my skin to clear up quite a bit, but not completely. I’ve tried pretty much all the over the counter products, and many Rx ones also… Here’s what I recommend, based on my own experiences and advice from my dermatologist…
(1) Every morning, cleanse your face with Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser (http://www.aveeno.com/facialcare/ultra-calming-foaming-cleanser), or a similar product that clearly states that it is for Sensitive Skin. To get the largest benefit from this cleanser, use it with a clean, damp, soft (preferably microfiber) washcloth. And remember: DON’T scrub hard on your face, be gentle and rub softly, then rise your face with warm (meaning, NOT hot or cold) water and gently PAT DRY with a clean, soft towel (again, DO NOT rub harshly).
(2) Now that your face is clean, apply a gentle toner (I highly recommend getting one that is alcohol-free), like Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner (http://www.neutrogena.com/econsumer/ntg/teenproductdetail.view?productId=26&catId=1&subCatId=2).
(3) Once you’ve dabbed some toner on and let it dry, use a gentle, oil-free moisturizer with sunscreen in it. The best one I’ve found for my sensitive skin is the Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 (http://www.aveeno.com/facialcare/positively-radiant-daily-moisturizer-spf30).
(4)If you have visible pimples (and the money), try the Zeno Hot Spot (http://myzeno.com) – it works reeeeally well. The only down side is the price (often 30-60 dollars, depending on which one you buy). If you don’t have the cash for a Zeno, then try using either Adult Acnomel (http://www.drugstore.com/qxp93932_333181_sespider_1_1/acnomel/adult_acne_medication.htm) , or a salicylic acid gel, my fav is Clean &Clear Invisible Acne Patch (http://www.cleanandclear.com/productDetail.do?productid=36&productpos=0). Keep in mind that it’s best if you don’t put it all over your face. Instead, gently massage a little bit on oily areas and blemishes.
5. At night before bed, repeat steps 1-4. and make adjustments as necessary (for example, if your face feels too dry, skip step 4. Or, if your face feels to oily, skip step 3.
6. If you do all these things faithfully, and you’re still breaking out, head over to your dermatologist’s office and see what they can do for you. I just started a once-a-day regimen with EpiDuo, and it is awesome!
And of course, use your common sense: NEVER use makeup or other beauty products that don’t say “oil-free” somewhere on the packaging. Change the pillowcase you sleep on as often as possible, try to avoid touching your face throughout the day (you’d be surprised at how much bacteria human hands have on them at any given time!), eat lots of green veggies and drink lots and lots of water, and finally, try to get a solid 8-9 hours of sleep every night. Hope this helps!
