Is Acn A Scam?
ACN | I took notice of ACN after some of the top reps from Excel Communications migrated over in 2004, before the company (Excel Telecom) imploded. It was a difficult year for many Excel reps having to adjust to a new corporate culture and a compensation that was less lucrative than that of Excel.
Who could blame them? I mean the way Excel structured its compensation when it was solvent was something of an anomaly. I may be wrong, but I heard that back then they used to pay out $350 per every reps directly sponsored, and $150 for subsequent downlines being build below your direct sponsors. Thinking back, that might be a contributing factor of its demise in late 2005.
ACN was founded by Robert Stevanovski, Greg Provenzano and Tony and Mike Cupisz in 1992 after the deregulation of the long distance market. It was originally named American Communications Network, Inc, and the partners, to this day, are still involved actively in the daily operations of the business all over the world.
ACN markets much of the products people need in daily basis. It’s meat and potato was local and long distance home phone service. It has since moved into DSL and IP telephony markets when ACN launched its products in those fields back in 2005. It has also dabbled in home security when it partnered up with Security Choice that provides ADT services, and newly partnered with DirecTV and Dish Network as a reseller of those services.
I particularly like the video phone where somebody like my mom could just pick up the phone and talk to her relatives in China and see them, without having to go on the computer to use Skype or other messaging services.
Given that its products are widely popular, I’m afraid the compensation is another story. The company pays out maximum 20% of its revenue to the distributors. The reason for such low payout percentage from its gross is because of the competitive nature of the industry ACN plays in. They have to strike a fine balance of premium over basic products that customers fell tolerable, and the percentage of payout to the representatives that allows them to make a decent profit.
So, to really make a good living with ACN, you really have to work hard to get the residual up and hope that your loyal customers stay loyal to you. I really can’t imagine what a daunting task that could be since my friends and I switch cell carriers frequently.
I love ACN’s services particularly of the video phone, but as I see it, you have to build a very large team and customer base in order to make this business work.
