Will leaving my telescope outside on a hot clear day mess it up?
Just for one or 2 days?? I have the Orion SkyQuest XT 10
I personally would not leave my scope outside and unprotected in any weather condition. There are lubricants and other things inside the scope and I have no idea if the heat from direct sunlight would cause these to leak. Also, if there are electronics, they may be affected as well by the extreme heat since metal absorbs, retains and transfers heat. Then, there is the expanding of the metal during the day and the contracting of the metal as it cools off. But as far as the scope goes, there is the possibility of “messing it up”. I guess you’ll know when you try the scope out. Generally speaking, anything that was not designed to withstand direct heat from sunlight, should not be left out-of-doors unprotected.
